Worship Ministries
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM): The LEMs assist the priest during the Mass. They read the Epistle and the Prayers of the People. They assist at the altar and help distribute the wine at Communion. They also provide communion to parishioners who are unable to attend church.
Lectors: Lectors are lay people who read the First Lesson during the Mass. They also serve as readers for other special services.
Music: The Cathedral Choir sings at the 10:00 AM Eucharist from early September to late May. The choir practices on Wednesday at 7:00 PM and on Sunday at 9:00 AM. Anyone interested in singing in the choir is welcome to join. Contact Choir Director Bob Edwards at 827-8660. Special music is provided during the summer including talent from the Cathedral, Salina, and beyond. A highlight of the Church year is the service of Lessons and Carols led by the Cathedral Choir. This takes place at the beginning of Advent and draws many visitors to the Cathedral.
Altar Guild: Members of the Altar Guild are responsible for setting the altar and making sure that the linens, wine, and bread are in place for the services.
Ushers & Greeters: Ushers and Greeters provide assistance during the service by handing out bulletins, greeting newcomers, presenting the elements at the offertory, and collecting the offering.
Acolytes: Older acolytes serve as the Crucifer who carries the Cross during the service. The younger acolytes serve as TorchBearers. During special services, the Thurifer provides incense throughout the service.
Verger: The Verger carries the verge, or staff, and leads the procession before the bishop, dean, or other dignitary.
