Christ Cathedral Vestry
The Vestry is the decision-making body of a parish. Its members includes the rector and elected lay representatives. Duties include calling a rector, budget and expenditure approval, and policy making. The Vestry at Christ Cathedral is committed to serving and ministering through the S.W.E.E.P.S program, Service, Worship, Education, Evangelism, Pastoral Care and Stewardship.
Service
The Christian Community engages in Service because it is called to serve all humankind as sisters and brothers in Christ. Because we are bound to one another in Christ, we bear the needs of others--hunger, poverty, loneliness, despair, illness. Standing together side-by-side, we address those needs as Christ's instruments for justice, healing and wholeness, striving for justice and peace among the children of God. The Vestry representative for Service is Steve Hoffman.
Worship
The congregation in its Worship declares its praise and glory to God. In all its worship, the Church participates in offering and God's empowering of those who offer themselves to be God's people. The gathered community is reminded of the story of the people of God in the breaking and in the sharing of the bread are fed to live it out. In worship, through prayer, the people are refreshed and renewed. The Vestry representative for Worship is Robert Kruger.
Education
The ministry of Education undergirds this committment. The educational efforts in the life of the Church seek to build a community of people who are faithful to Christ and who grow in the knowledge of the scripture, tradition, and heritage of the Christian witness. Educational efforts for the whole congregation can build skills needed for mission and help to equip people for the ministries to which they are called. The Vestry representative for Education is Vicky Nichols.
Evangelism
Sharing the Christian faith with others is the manifestation of Evangelism. Declaring the Good News of Jesus Christ by word and deed for all creation to experience is a basic task for the Christian family. Each is called to be engaged in this ministry. It may be declared in witness or storytelling, welcoming and involving new members, seeking out the lapsed, beginning new congregations or revitalizing established ones. The Vestry representative for Evangelism is Wayne DeBey.
Pastoral Care
Because each of God's human creations is due dignity as God's own, we honor and nurture one another. The ministry of Pastoral Care is manifested in the listener, the enabler, and the encourager. This ministry includes hospital visitations, and the administration of Holy Eucharist to shut-ins. The Vestry representative for Pastoral Care is Mary Powell.
Stewardship
Through these ministries, we at Christ Cathedral develop our budget for the coming year. It is to these ministries that we direct our efforts and our financial commitment. Stewardship then takes on the face of ministry rather than just maintaining buildings and staff. You can commit to the Stewardship ministry of the Church by your generous giving of your time, talent and treasure. The Vestry representative for Stewardship is Harry Smith.
