Christ Episcopal Cathedral A Playground Story
|
In 2005, a young member of Christ Cathedral, 5th grader Alyse, had a
vision for Christ Cathedral and the surrounding community. She found
it unfair that the kids who lived near the church and at the Ashby House
had no safe place to play--except for the 2 swings and rings on the
Cathedral lawn where only 3 kids could play and 10 could watch. She
made it her mission to remedy the situation. She secured a $1000
grant from the Youth Grant Makers Council. This was only the
beginning.
With Vestry approval, she researched playground equipment that would
work in the available space. She also partnered with the Ashby House
in the planning and fundraising for the project. The Cathedral
Alyse gets ready to break ground for
the playground.
The finished playground is open to everyone! Check out the pictorial timeline below!

church family also pitched in to make the project happen, participating in tamale sales, donations, prayers, and
concession stands, raising over $25,000.
In early June 2007, the playground was finished. It was dedicated during Vacation Bible School. It features 3 slides, a
storefront window, spinning wheels, tic-tac-toe, and monkey bars. It is surrounded by a gated fence for safety.
We are excited for everyone to come check out what God built using the vision of our children!
